Ten pages into Echo Burning by Lee Child, I knew I was going to like it. Not because the story was already so gripping, but because the writing style was so vivid. This is my first Lee Child book, but I’ve been wanting to read one of his books for a while now. Child is a very popular author with our Paperspine members and his series of titles with lead character Jack Reacher looked like something I would enjoy reading.
Jack Reacher is an ex-military cop that has become a loner and a bit of a transient, drifting from one place to another with no permanent location. Out in rural Texas he is trying to hitch a ride when he gets picked up by a nice looking woman in a Cadillac. Her picking him up was no accident though. She soon tells him that she is in a violent marriage and needs help to escape. He buys her story and soon is out to help her and her 6 year old daughter. Trouble is not everything is adding up for Reacher and he soon learns that not everything he has been told is the truth, which leaves him not knowing who to help. Get ready to be captivated as Jack Reacher starts untangling the twists and turns in this unpredictable page turner!
I was so into this book that I was driving my wife nearly mad. Every time she looked up, I had my nose stuck in it trying to get through as many pages as time would allow. I even read some of it during a football game, which those that know me will tell you is totally unheard of! I found Child’s writing style so captivating and well laid out that I was always wanting more. In fact, now that I’ve finished Echo Burning, I’m going to read another one of his novels, The Enemy, to keep my fix alive. If you love suspense, if you love thrillers, you’ll love Echo Burning!
Happy Reading,
Dustin
